The stuff that nightmares are made of.

This is a lamprey, Petromyzon marinus and it's a parasite found in most every ocean. I don't know about you, but as an avid swimmer who doesn't like lakes because of the odd encounter with a leech,  I may never swim again after seeing this. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a puddle under my chair to clean up and a person to defriend on my Facebook account now that I can never sleep or take a bath again.
Seriously, God. WTF?

Remember the eelskin wallet craze of the early 1990's? You're looking at the source of the eels, right there. Lampreys and the very similar Hagfish.

Hagfish I can handle. I've handled a few dead fish and had them open up to show off the buried treasure. They're gross, but respond positively to being washed overboard after I scream like a little girl.

Thanks, and I just learned that they're in the great lakes as well.
