the autumn of vacation

Well, last couple of days home, and I'll be back to work soon. It's been awesome.

I fiberglassed the little boat today. I much prefer using polyester resin, but I sprung for the epoxy. It's less forgiving than the poly, that's for sure. Gonna be a fair bit of sanding to do, and some fairing, too, I'd warrant.

Purchase the best damn dust collection system you can possibly afford, and then some. Epoxy / fiberglass dust is next to asbestos in the lung destroying department. Also consider where you are doing this work as your family, (unless you spring for a paint booth / clean room) will also be exposed to the debris. A necessary evil I know, but better to be safe than sorry.

Cleaning up after sanding was NOT fun. I wear a 1/2 face respirator w/ particulate/organic vapor cartridges and hang a 'keep out' sign on the door, while my garage door is open w/ a fan blowing ambient air and some dust out.

Takes a lot of compressed air, 3 good sweepings and a mopping to clear the room.

Next house will have a unitized dust collection system. I don't do enough glasswork to invest in a wet sander.
